'Bottoms' Star Ayo Edebiri Gets Ready for Prada at Milan Fashion Week
Released on 09/22/2023
The vibe is like young black actress, late 60's,
came for film festival
with the sunglasses. Eating spaghetti.
Captured by the paparazzi. Love it!
Ah! Stop, I'm eating my spaghetti.
Spaghetti! Italian.
I'm literally fluent.
[upbeat flute music]
Well, well, well, Vanity Fair.
Hello! I'm Ayo Edebiri
and we're gonna get ready for Prada together.
Come on.
[upbeat music]
Oh, sorry.
I'm taking my migraine medication.
How I feel honestly right now is tired.
I'm really jet lagged. [laughing]
I couldn't sleep last night.
I stayed up until 4:00 AM and nobody tells you that
sometimes you'll get jet lagged during these things
and that you, you'll try to sleep for a really long time
and you can't sleep and you feel like a baby.
Even though you're the opposite of a baby,
you're 27 years old, but positive...
like tired in a positive way.
You are banned from the Prada Spring/Summer 2024
Women's wear show. Amazing.
It's my invitation.
You don't get to see it.
You can see the envelope though.
Private.
The box, the amazing box.
[Both] Ooh. Nice.
That's nice.
You like that? Keep that out.
Prada, simple elegance.
[Indistinguishable]
Oh, that's pretty!
I'm kind of always opening everything on the wrong side.
What's that about?
It's a change in perspective.
Yeah. Well, well, well.
Oh, hello.
Smooch your lips together.
Gorgeous.
You keep looking at me.
Yeah, there he is!
Hair and makeup vibes.
Well, I think today because of the beautiful outfit
that you have, and with James' hair, I think we should just
go for very beautiful, well moisturized skin.
And there's nothing sexier than gorgeous,
perfected skin that still looks real.
You don't need much makeup anyway, Ayo.
Oh stop. Stop it.
Then hair?
Kind of, I guess, from the pencil skirt,
getting a bit of a kind of a late 60's vibe.
So we wanted something with quite a lot of volume,
to make it kind of more bouncy.
Give it a bit of height at the crown.
A nod to some of the black actresses in the late 60's,
that kind of vibe.
Got a curtain bang going on as well
to frame her face nicely.
Yeah.
I can pretend to speak Italian.
Bonjourno!
[attempting Italian]
[laughing]
I've never been to Milan.
I've never...me pronouncing it like I'm Italian.
[with Italian accent] I've never been to Milan.
[regular voice] But I've been to Rome when I studied abroad
in college and we almost got pick pocketed twice
by two pickpockets who were really
bad at pick pocketing, which is why we caught them.
Like we fully caught two of them at two different times.
We started walking and then these men started chasing us
and it was really scary.
We were like, why are these men chasing us?
And then we ended up in a dead end street
'cause we didn't know where we were going.
And the two guys
they, like, found us and we were like, oh my God.
Like here it is.
We met our end in Italy and they were like,
[imitating Italian men] So sorry, so sorry,
we didn't know your names.
We have a karaoke bar.
Do you want to come to the karaoke bar and sing?
[talking normal] So then we went to the karaoke bar
and they were like, [imitating Italian men] Please,
will you sing Michael Jackson?
[normal voice] And then we were like, no.
And they were like,
[imitating Italian men] we'll give you free drinks
and free food.
[normal voice] And so then we were like, okay.
And then we sang Michael Jackson and then we got free drinks
and free food at this karaoke bar.
You're so cheap.
That's your takeaway from the story is that I'm cheap?
You sang for, what, a slice of pizza and a drink?
Multiple free pizzas.
Okay. And multiple free drinks.
And also we were just hanging out with these strange
Italian people and it was actually really fun.
That's very trusting of you though.
How old were you?
19 or 20.
Wow.
That's the sort of thing that can happen
when you're like 19.
'Cause you're fearless at 19, you're like, yeah, whatever.
I definitely was full of fear.
But I was also just stupid at the same time.
[upbeat music]
I'm gonna go to full mirror.
I definitely think we need the outfit on to see how
everything's looking, 'cause then you'll see how it goes
around the neckline,
that kind of stuff. Mhmm.
Okay, cool.
[hairspray spritzing]
Lately, what am I wearing a lot of?
Like a big pant.
Like I just like to wear like a big pant.
That's like a go-to.
And it's soon gonna be fall
and I'll get to wear like sweaters.
I'm an incredibly boring person.
I'm so sorry.
I just wanna wear sweaters and big pants.
That's all I got.
Today, what am I wearing to the show?
I'm wearing like a nice... well, you'll see it.
Well, you'll see it.
Do you want me to tell you or do you wanna see it?
You know what I mean?
[upbeat music]
I think like a little tighter, maybe?
Yeah?
Yeah, yeah, I think.
[Man] Oh, you're good.
Oh stop.
[Man] Come on. Yeah!
Stop. I'm shy.
[upbeat music]
[Ayo] Do you like musicals?
Do you like Sondheim?
Madeline Kahn doing Not Getting Married Today?
No feet for free!
You'll see the shoes on, but not the toes!
No feet for free.
[upbeat music]
It's just like a lovely, really nice satin two piece.
Just feels very sleek.
Eyes up here, buddy.
Yeah, I'm excited. [laughing]
Oh my God, I'm late as hell!
This is real because now we're rushing.
But thanks for coming.
I'm ready now.
Okay, bye!
Fashion.
[upbeat music]
Prada!
Bye Vanity Fair, see ya.
