Taylor Swift fans who hoped to rub shoulders with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, are in for a little disappointment this weekend. Though the Kansas City Chiefs tight end did indeed make the 15-hour trek to Sydney, Australia, for a visit to the city’s zoo and Swift's Friday show at Accor Stadium, by the time her Saturday show rolled around, he was already on a jet headed back to the US.
As I write this, it’s already Sunday morning in Sydney, which is 16 hours ahead of America’s Eastern time zone. Swift’s Saturday night show has already happened, with famous fans like—per People—Rebel Wilson in the stands. But according to the Daily Mail, Kelce was “a no show,” to the dismay of attendees eager to see a repeat of Friday’s public expressions of affection.
That’s when Swift again changed the lyrics to her song, “Karma,” again calling out “the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me,” TMZ reports. Swift also pointed to Kelce—who was watching the show from the VIP tent alongside travel buddy and former teammate Ross Travis—as she sang the line “that’s my man,” a lyric from her song, “Willow.”
At the show’s conclusion, Swift ran up to Kelce and greeted him with a kiss, as cheering fans captured the moment for social media posterity.
But by the next morning, Kelce packed up his friendship bracelets and hopped on a jet to Las Vegas, Us Weekly reports. According to an unnamed source, the 34-year-old Kelce is expected at a so-called “boys weekend,” where he will “meet up with his Chiefs teammates, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, to continue celebrating their Super Bowl LVIII championship against the San Francisco 49ers earlier this month.”
This is Kelce’s third trip to Las Vegas in the last two weeks, TMZ reports, as the athlete was spotted at the Wynn Golf & County Club and Mexican steakhouse Toca Madera on Monday—and, of course, the team painted the town on February 11, following their Super Bowl win.
But while Kelce’s vacation is just beginning, Swift remains on the job. She’s midway through a four-show stint in Sydney, then next weekend, she’ll have a grueling six-concert run in Singapore. After that, she’ll get a break until May 9, when she’s due for three shows in Paris. (The one in France, not Las Vegas.)
By then, Kelce will already be gearing up for work, as his team’s offseason workout program begins on April 15. Will that quash any plans for a Taylor and Travis rendezvous in the City of Love? Only Chiefs coach Andy Reid can answer that one, so here’s hoping Kelce is working overtime to mend those fences.
