Snow didn’t stop Travis Kelce from going to work over the weekend, playing with the Kansas City Chiefs in -4 degree weather, and icy weather isn’t stopping Taylor Swift from popping into her own nontraditional office either. After spending the weekend bundled up in Kansas City cheering on Kelce and Co., Swift was spotted back in snowy New York City Thursday evening, paying another visit to Electric Lady Studios, the legendary recording space downtown where she’s laid down her last several studio albums.
Swift headed into the studio wearing a cashmere maxi dress from The Row, paired with chunky black boots, black stockings, and a long black overcoat. (Her choice of footwear for the work outing was, at least, more weather and occasion-appropriate than her friend and Travis’ teammate Patrick Mahomes’ recent selection of bright white Crocs to go with a suit for a Chiefs photo shoot. Call it business extremely-casual attire.)
This isn’t Swift’s first recent session at Electric Lady, either: She also hit the studio just over a week ago, and before the Christmas holiday. Speculation is rampant over what, exactly, she’s doing in there, and whether she’s been dropping subliminal hints through her fashion, web presence, and more about what she’s up to. Could her glimmering green Gucci dress at the Golden Globes have been a nod toward the springy palette of her debut album, signaling an imminent announcement around the (Taylor's Version) re-recording of the self-titled album? Or perhaps those sleek sequins were meant to be reminiscent of the scales of a snake, which, when viewed alongside another of the week’s outfits prominently featuring a pair of snake-print over-the-knee boots, might point toward her putting the finishing touches on Reputation (Taylor’s Version) before unleashing that serpent on the world.
Maybe she’s making new music, the rumored Sagittarius album, signaled by her moon-and-stars birthday minidress, a constellation handbag, and other recent otherworldly wardrobe choices.
No matter what she’s recording, it looks like more snow is in the forecast for Swift: Kelce and the Chiefs are heading to Buffalo to play the Bills Sunday in the NFL’s divisional playoffs, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Swift in her usual spot in the VIP suite cheering Kelce on.
A representative for Taylor Swift did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
