Taylor Swift continues to rack up the miles along with the milestones, going from the Grammys in Los Angeles Sunday to resuming her Eras Tour in Tokyo, Japan for a planned four performances beginning Tuesday, to...mmmmmaybe the Super Bowl in Las Vegas on Sunday to watch boyfriend Travis Kelce catch the football? (The Japanese Embassy is into it, at least.) The calendar: It’s not empty, by any means.
Swift’s news pipeline is living up to her name and moving fast. On Sunday, she announced a brand new album, The Tortured Poets Department, scooped up a record-breaking fourth Album of the Year Grammy, and hugged Celine Dion a few minutes later than many online commenters would have liked. Tuesday evening, Swift took the stage in Tokyo for the first of four shows, telling fans in a video posted to social media that she’d been working on her latest release throughout the U.S. leg of her tour, and had started it just after completing Midnights.
“When it was perfect—in my opinion when it’s good enough for you—I finished it and I am so so excited that soon you’ll get to hear it,” she said of The Tortured Poets Department.
“Everyone’s like, ‘Why do you make so many albums?’ I’m like, ‘Man, because I love it! I love it so much!’” she continued.
One person who won’t have to wait to hear her new work: Kelce, who said in a press conference that the tracks are “unbelievable.”
“I can’t wait for her to shake up the world when it finally drops,” he said, before refusing to share any more information about the 17-track collection, which is set to debut on April 19. Swift’s Easter egg factory, as always, appears to be pumping out its product at a steady clip: Swift and several of her close friends have changed their profile photos to greyscale in recent days, aligning with the style of the black-and-white cover art Swift has revealed for The Tortured Poets Department.
Kelce himself will soon take center stage, playing with the Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas. Whether Swift will make the 12-ish hour flight from Tokyo to Vegas, which paired with the 17-hour time difference between the two points on the globe would have her arriving before kickoff, remains to be seen. We all have the same 24 hours in our days, but sometimes, like now, it doesn't really feel like it.
When she told us to meet her at midnight, after all, she didn’t specify in which time zone.
